In addition to altering the chassis and suspension, the Ford team shaved weight by relieving the Boss 302 of its rear seat. Depending on overall setup, boosting the level of aerodynamic drag is a necessity for vehicles destined for road courses and the Laguna Seca package fulfills that need with an aggressive front splitter and larger rear wing. The front splitter was adapted from an actual Ford Racing part and sits low to the ground to move airflow under and around the car. Paired with the remaining aero pieces, Ford says the package alone can generate as much as 90 pounds of downforce at 140 mph, not an insubstantial amount and crucial to accomplishing a hot lap.
With more grip and better track manners, the Laguna Seca package-equipped Boss 302 can do over 1.03 g of lateral acceleration and racers can expect a 1-to-2-second improvement in lap times over the regular Boss on a typical track. This is the modern-day interpretation of the race-winning 1970 Boss 302, and painted either Black or Ingot Silver with a red roof panel, this version shines.
