Geneva 2011: Mansory's Ferrari 458 Italia-based Sicilian, the Siracusa

Mansory's products are always eye-catching (if not necessarily attractive), whether they be a clear coat carbon Aston Martin named Cyrus or that silly pink Bentley. Beauty, after all, is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, allow me to introduce you to the Siracusa. Rant and rave in the comments below.

Underneath all the new and revised carbon fiber body panels (now with more louvers!) is a Ferrari 458 Italia. Named after a Sicilian raceway, the Siracusa has received a respiratory performance boost to 590 horsepower / 434 kW and 560 Nm / 413 lb-ft representing gains of + 20 hp and + 20 Nm / 15 lb-ft over the standard model.

Thanks to the bump in power and drop in weight, Mansory claims the car will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and attain a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

The Siracusa rides on 20- and 21-inch wheels (f/r) sheathed in Michelins, while inside is the same old tuner car song: carbon fiber, leather, and ultra-suede. Also, a new suspension setup lowers the car 20 mm. Next!

Amen: Ferrari Finally Admits 458 Italia Fire Risks, Recalling 1,148 Cars

It took 11 accidents involving the freshly launched 458 Italia with five of them being ruined by fire, and a whole lot of media attention from the internet, for Ferrari to finally investigate the issue and announce a total recall on their latest supercar.

Being that Ferrari considers itself as something out of this world that is not subject to the same unwritten rules as the rest of the automakers, the company did not publish a broadly available press release to inform the media, and consequently, the public, about a problematic product that puts at a fiery risk the lives of its clients. Instead, the Italian brand simply answered questions to individual media outlets such as CNN through its spokespersons.

According to CNN, Ferrari's investigators discovered "defects in the bonding adhesive used to attach the heat-shield to the wheel arch in each of the five cars" that caught fire. Since the heat-shield is used to shelter the wheel arch housing from the exhaust pipe, if the glue dissolves, then the housing is exposed to extremely high temperatures and can catch on fire.

However, the Italian company claims that it takes a combination of extreme conditions to actually cause a fire.

"Heavy usage of the car, such as driving very fast down a twisty road or up a mountain, will increase the temperature inside the engine bay," the Ferrari spokeswoman said. (And we all know that everyone buys a Ferrari to cruise at 50mph on the highway...)

"If that is combined with extremely high ambient temperatures, which has been the case throughout Europe especially this summer, then this will cause the defamation of the wheel arch, bringing it closer to the exhaust and causing the car to smoke or ignite."

The company told the news site that it plans to recall and examine all 1,148 cars produced up to July 30 this year. The five fire-related incidents have occurred in the U.S., Britain, France, Switzerland and China.

"We're contacting clients across the world to get them to bring their cars back to the dealers so we can check the wheel arch," the spokesperson said. "If necessary we will replace the heat-shield with a new heat-shield that is riveted to the wheel arch rather than attached with the adhesive."

VIDEO: This is what a Ferrari 458 Italia on fire looks like on film

With so many Ferrari 458 Italia super-duper-cars going flambé on their owners, it was just a matter of time when someone would get one roasting on film. This prime example of Italy's hottest model was cooked somewhere in China's eastern coast.

We'll remind you that Ferrari has admitted through its UK spokesperson that it is currently investigating the 458 fires. According to media reports, in the past three months, a total of 11 Ferrari 458 Italia models (including this latest incident in China) have crashed with five of them being ruined by fire. Grab a bag of chips and enjoy the short film "A qualcuno piace caldo" right after the break.

Surprise, Surprise: Ferrari looking into 458 Italia Fires

Turns out that we're not the only ones to think that the unusually high number of brand-new Ferrari 458s catching fire, is well, at tad suspicious, to say the least. So does Ferrari which is looking into the potential issue. While at least 10 Ferrari 458s have been involved in accidents since the beginning of the year, Ferrari is investigating three specific cases in which the supercar caught fire. One of those cars was roasted in a storage facility blaze at London's Heathrow airport.

A Ferrari spokesman in the UK has officially confirmed that the company is investigating the cause of the fires. "We are taking all the reports very seriously and are looking into them but we are treating them all as separate incidents," the unnamed spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.

In a another report on the same topic, the Italian automaker's spokesperson told 'Just-Auto': "It is important to differentiate between what is a vehicle fire and outside factors and I would include driver error."

Which, of course, is a reasonable argument if you take into consideration that we're talking about a 570HP -strong mid-engine exotic supercar that's capable of reaching 100km/h (62mph) in 3.4 seconds before topping out at 325 km/h or 202mph.

"Six have been incidents where it potentially could be the driver or other factors", the spokesperson added. "I am not in a position to comment on the vehicle fires and all we can say is we are taking it obviously very seriously."

Rental Ferrari 458 Italia gets a Nasty Nose Job

We know, we know and we know (click the highlighted links) that a Ferrari 458 Italia crashing or burning up is hardly news these days. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised at all if the number of wrecked 458s exceeds Maranello's available production capacity... At least this dark gray (or is that black?) example is said to have been a rental car hired from a company in the UK. More photos after the jump.

Tool of the Day: Owner Crashes Brand New Ferrari 458 Italia Outside Maranello Factory [VIDEO]

Nothing says you're a tool going to be one of Ferrari's finest customers better than crashing a brand new 458 Italia right outside the firm's plant in Maranello only 24 hours after buying the supercar (according to the person who taped the video). Follow the break to watch the film showing the 458 Italia revving its 570HP 4.5-liter V8 one day and making love to a tree the next.

Ferrari 458 Challenge Testing Continues [New Photos]

Being a racing model, it's only fitting for Ferrari to inform us that professional drivers are taking part in the fine-tuning of the newly born 458 Challenge. The pilots that took on the role of test driver at the Vallelunga circuit this week were Maurizio Mediani from Italy and Jaime Melo from Argentina who currently races a F430 GT2 in the American Le Mans Series for Team Risi Competizione.

The Italian supercar maker also released a new batch of pictures of the track-only version of the mid-engined 458 Italia, which is set to compete in Ferrari's one-make series starting from 2011. Check them out after the jump.

Tons of Videos from Transformers 3 Shooting in Chicago, Including Scenes with Camaro, Ferrari 458 and Corvette Stingray Roadster

Michael Bay and his crew have been taking over the streets of downtown Chicago in July filming numerous scenes for the Transformers 3 movie, which is due for release in summer of 2011. With all the commotion from the shooting, it was inevitable that hundreds of people would gather around and capture a bunch of videos from the set.

Some of the Transformer cars that were snagged on film in Chicago include the Bumblebee Camaro, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mercedes-Benz E-Class (most likely the E63 AMG), several NASCAR racers and the topless version of the Corvette Stingray Concept. We've pasted the most interesting video clips we found on Youtube right after the jump.

Once Upon a Time, this Heap of Metal was a Ferrari 458 Italia...

We know; aside from the alloy wheels, it's hard to imagine by looking at these pictures that the heap of crumpled metal was once a Ferrari 458 Italia. Little is known about the accident other than it reportedly took place somewhere in France after the supercar's V8 engine caught on fire. If true, it is not the first time that this has happened as another example of the 458 Italia -again in France - went up in flames earlier this month. More photos after the break.

Ouch... Ferrari 458 Italia Lights Up in Paris

The owner of this Ferrari 458 Italia was in for a nasty surprise when his 570-horsepower Italian supercar started sending smoke signals from the engine compartment while he was driving on the streets of Paris. The cause of the fire remains a mystery but you can see the results in the photo gallery that was posted by a member of the Autogespot forums after the break.
