Morgan Three Wheeler Coming Back for Company's 100th Anniversary

Fifty-eight years after the last Morgan three-wheeler rolled off the production line, a source close to the family owned company has confirmed that the iconic model will be resurrected to celebrate the brand's centenary (1910 - 2010).

When asked by Britain's Morgan Three Wheeler Club, Jill Price - the sister of Morgan Managing Director Charles Morgan - confirmed that such a model was in development. There are no official details as of yet but club members are happy to speculate:

The new three-wheeler, most likely to be named Super Sport and priced around the £46,000, could be powered by a 90 bhp 1,000cc or 1,100cc V-twin engine good for a top speed of 100 mph. This would be based on J. A. Prestwich's original and will possibly be built by local specialists Cameron Engineering.

Ian Parkinson, of the Morgan Three Wheeler Club, told the Telegraph: "We play with these silly old cars because they're are a lot of fun to drive: they corner like they're on rails and you can drift them round corners. But they can conk out without warning in the middle of nowhere.

"It will be wonderful to see a classic bit of British engineering back on the road and brand new and could open the club to a new kind of enthusiast."

The last of the three wheelers left Morgan's Malvern factory in July 1952, though the model was briefly resurrected as the Liberty Ace by American Pete Larsen in 2009.

All-New EvaGT Sports Coupe Brings Modern to Morgan

There's no question that the new Morgan EvaGT is a looker; most Morgans are. The British marque's latest niche-tourer has evolved rather nicely from paper to static concept, but the few noticeable changes leave me wondering if they were for the better.

The rear end is fine, but I'm still not sure about that center exhaust situation. Also, those round taillights seem out of place and are nowhere near as elegant as the thin LED strips initially seen in the sketches (see them here). The headlights aren't as feline as the original pics either, but they come off as appropriate and are thankfully not cross-eyed.

Really, though, these are discrepancies that would surely be handled if I were as liquid as, say, Gordon Gecko or Les Grossman and in the market for number-one stunning.

After the love-it or hate-it Aero 8, this new Morgan seems to be playing a little more by the rules. Is that a good thing? Leave your thoughts about the new design down below.

New Morgan EvaGT with BMW Turbo Teased Ahead of Pebble Beach Debut

In somewhat of a turnaround for a company that has been making the same car for almost half a century, Morgan aims to introduce a new model to the market every two years, and this here, the new EvaGT, is the first product to come out of the initiative.

The new model will be based on the Aero Supersport's aluminium chassis with power coming from a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six with direct petrol injection pumping out 306-horsepower and 295 lb-ft / 400Nm of peak torque. The engine will be matted to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Morgan estimates that the EvaGT will hit 0 to 60 mph (96km/h) in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 170mph or 273km/h.

The company said that the four seater Coupe takes its inspiration from the British sports saloons of the early 1950's such as the Bristol 400 series and the Frazer Nash BMW 328.

The EvaGT will have its world premiere at the 60th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Carmel, California, USA on the 15th of August, 2010.

Morgan EvaGT Technical Specification (subject to change):

BMW 3 litre straight six mono twin turbo with direct petrol injection 306bhp and 400nm torque

    • Euro 5 and 6 compliant at 200 gms Co2/km, US FMVSS, CARB and EPA approved.
    • 40 mpg / 7.06 litres/100kms
    • 6 speed sport automatic or 6 speed manual gearbox.
    • Rear wheel drive with fully independent intelligent suspension
    • Aluminium body panels with a laminated internal safety structure.
    • Predicted weight of 2755 lbs/1250 kg
    • Predicted 0-60 mph 4.5 seconds/ 0-100km/h 4.5 seconds
    • Predicted top speed 170mph / 273 km/h
