Land Rover to Premiere Range E Diesel-Electric Plug-in Hybrid at Geneva Show

The new Land Rover Range_e diesel-electric plug-in prototype that was first teased back in May, 2010, will make its motor show debut at next month's Geneva Salon. The Range_e is said to be one of several working prototypes currently being developed at Land Rover's design and engineering centre in the UK. It is based on the Range Rover Sport model and features a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission mated to an, as-of-yet unspecified, electric motor and battery pack.

The British automaker said the all-wheel drive prototype can run purely on electricity for up to a distance of 20 miles or approximately 32 kilometers and emits as low as 89g/km of CO2. The Range_e also has a top speed of 120 mph or 193 km/h and a combined driving range of 690 miles or 1,110 kilometers.

The Range_e will be joined at Land Rover's Geneva Motor Show stand by two new Limited Editions, the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate and the 2011 Discovery 4 'Landmark' with Black and White themes.

Land Rover added that it will also be announcing full European pricing (excluding UK) for the new Range Rover Evoque in both 3- and 5-door forms, and will also showing a comprehensive range of accessories and options for the vehicle.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director said: "Customers like to make their own unique statement with a vehicle and we have provided individuals with lots of opportunity to personalise their new Range Rover Evoque, whilst maintaining the essence of the design."

New Range Rover Evoque: First Video Footage of 3d SUV on the Move

Land Rover just released some new videos of its upcoming Evoque in motion, and it continues to convince. Interested? Hit the jump for the vids, or head over to our previous post for all the details.

Debuting at next week's Paris Auto Show as a 3-door model (the 5-door's on the way, don't fret), the new mini-Range will get turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines; the 2.2-liter diesels will come in 150-horsepower and 190-horsepower flavors, while the 2.0-liter gasoline engine will put down a still-undisclosed output (where you at, Rover?).

Not only that, but the diesels post some impressive fuel economy numbers as well. How do you feel about 50 mpg Imperial / 41.6 mpg US from the low-output diesel with 4-wheel drive? Good, that's how.

It will be available in both 4-wheel driver and front-wheel drive (a Rover first), come in three trim levels, and provide owners with one very attractive interior. Live shots are on the way.

Paris Preshow: Range Rover Evoque Revealed in Detail, gets Four-Cylinder Turbo Engines

We've finally got some more artsy pics of the new Range Rover Evoque, which is set to be in a lot of peoples' driveways come next summer. Oh, hey, there are specs, too. Just to get the pricing issue out of the way, Rover says it'll start at £30,000 when it arrives in the UK next summer (foreign pricing to come at a later date).

The "low carbon" front-wheel drive (or optional full-time four-wheel drive) Evoque is called a "cross-coupé", and is kind of like the new-urban spiritual successor to the old 3-door Range Rover. A four-door model is also on the way (see the spy shots here), but I'll stay with the shooting brake of SUVs, thank you very much.

From the pics, you can see the divine interior - in this case coated in leather with "twin needle" stitching - houses the expected Terrain Response system, a Jag-inspired transmission knob, and all the cell/MP3 connectivity you'll ever need.

The dash also gets an optional dual-view 8-inch screen (the kind where driver and passenger have the ability to see different projections on the monitor).

Audio from your iPod will be routed through a 17-speaker Meridian system and backed by 825 watts, while above the seating area is your gateway to the stars (or a glass panoramic roof, if you're not feeling as inspired as I am right now).

Power for the most elite of cute-utes comes from a series of gasoline and diesel turbo engines that incorporate start/stop tech, while the Evoque also stays a little greener thanks to electronic power-assisted steering (which is considered a low-CO2 system).

The four-cylinder turbodiesels are based on a 2.2-liter unit and provide either 150 or 190 horsepower.

Opting for the FWD 150-horse diesel earns you the most green points with an estimated fuel economy of 58 mpg Imperial (48.3mpg US or 4.9lt/100km) and under 130 grams of CO2 per kilometer of emissions (the 4X4 low-output diesel comes in at a still impressive 50 mpg (41.6mpg US or 5.6lt/100km) and under 145 g CO2 / km).

On the other hand, if you're looking to burn gasoline and have a closer power-to-torque ratio, go with the 2.0-liter Si4 engine. Using direct injection, turbocharging, and variable valve timing, the car puts down...well, Rover didn't say, but the 0-60mph (96km/h) claim is 7.1 seconds.

Suspension duties are handled by a MagneRide setup in order to make handling sporty yet comfortable (though that claim will only be proven once it's been tested). Land Rover program director Murray Dietsch says that they've "tuned the Range Rover Evoque's chassis and Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) to deliver precise and responsive steering at lower speeds, making the car nimble and fun to drive."

To keep things relatively simple, the Evoque will come in three flavors from the get-go: 1) "Pure" (aka Base), which provides the car, soft-touch materials, and aluminum trim; 2) "Prestige" (aka Luxury), which adds 19-inch wheels and a lot of leather; and 3) "Dynamic" (aka Sport-Lux), which adds 20-inch wheels, unique exterior styling (bumpers, grille, spoilers with contrasting colors, etc.) and sports seats. There will also be a hybrid in the future, so expect this little guy to get even greener.

Of adding a smaller Range to Rover's lineup, CEO Dr. Ralf Speth says, "These are exciting times for our business. Not only will the Range Rover Evoque increase our worldwide market share, it helps to define a new segment for premium compact SUVs that are more sporting and stylish."

We'll have more on Land Rover's promising Evoque from the Paris Show floor on September 30.

SPIED: 2012 Range Rover Evoque 5-Door Version

Land Rover's newly revealed baby Range Rover model, the Evoque, will also be offered in a more practical five-door body style as these latest spy photos confirm. Last month, the British firm pulled the wraps off the three-door Evoque, which will arrive in European showrooms next summer with North America and other regions to follow in the fall of the same year. The five door version pictured here testing at the Nurburgring, will most likely go on sale in the first half of 2012.

At present, technical details remain sketchy about the Evoque, but Land Rover has confirmed that its smallest Range Rover model ever will be offered in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations, with the 2WD model emitting less than 130g/km of CO2. For the record, the test car seen here is registered in the UK with a 2.0-liter petrol engine.

We'll have more info on Land Rover's new crossover model at next month's Paris Motor Show.

Land Rover Movie Vehicles to go on Display at UK Event [Updated with Video]

Land Rovers from blockbuster movies and TV shows will join several other special LR models at this year's "LANDROVERmax!" happening, to be held at Stoneleigh Park in the West Midlands region of England from 28th to 30th August.

Among the vehicles to go on display at the event is the futuristic Land Rover City Cab (pictured above) from Sylvester Stallone's 1995 film, Judge Dredd. A total of 31 examples of the fiberglass-bodied City Cab were made for the movie, which was set in the year 2139.

Also transferring from the big screen to the showground is the Land Rover 110 featured in Tomb Raider and driven by Angelina Jolie who portrayed Lara Croft.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond will show off "Buster", his modified 1986 Land Rover 110 which runs a heavy-duty 4.5-litre V8 delivering more than 200bhp. Hammond, who says he has spent more than £70,000 (about US$110,000) on Buster, commented: "It cost more than a new Range Rover and is more expensive to run than a Ferrari Enzo - but I always drive it with a big grin on my face."

The British Army's SAS Desert Patrol 110 model will also be on show at the event which will be open from 9am until 5.30pm, with tickets priced at £10 for adults in advance and £14 on the day with free entry for children. Prices for weekend tickets covering all three days of the show are set at £25.
